The Parting of the Sea

Scripture:  Nehemiah 9:9-11

9    “You saw the affliction of our fathers in Egypt,

    And heard their cry by the Red Sea.

10    “Then You performed signs and wonders against Pharaoh,

    Against all his servants and all the people of his land;

    For You knew that they acted arrogantly toward them,

    And made a name for Yourself as it is this day.

11   “You divided the sea before them,

    So they passed through the midst of the sea on dry ground;

    And their pursuers You hurled into the depths,

    Like a stone into raging waters.

A. God Saw Their Plight vs. 9

1. God Saw Their Affliction vs.  9a

“You saw the affliction of our fathers in Egypt, . . .”

Brian Bellerose spoke on Psalm 11 last Sunday evening; one of my favorites!  In vs.  4 it says:

The LORD is in His holy temple; the LORD’S throne is in heaven; His eyes behold, His eyelids test the sons of men.

a. God is Always on Duty   He is in His Holy Temple.

b. God is Enthroned in Heaven   He is Sovereign over all.

c. God is All-Seeing   “His eyes behold” He sees with overseeing eyes.

He sees and oversees all men everywhere

Psalm 33:14,15 & 18-21

14    From His dwelling place He looks out

    On all the inhabitants of the earth,

15    He who fashions the hearts of them all,

    He who understands all their works.

He sees and oversees His redeemed everlastingly.

18    Behold, the eye of the LORD is on those who fear Him,

    On those who hope for His lovingkindness,

19    To deliver their soul from death

    And to keep them alive in famine.

20  Our soul waits for the LORD;

    He is our help and our shield.

21  For our heart rejoices in Him,

    Because we trust in His holy name.

d. God is All-Wise   “His eyelids try”

It may seem like God has closed His eyes to us at times but He merely is conditioning us for His service.  See Hebrews 12:9,10

9 Furthermore, we had earthly fathers to discipline us, and we respected them; shall we not much rather be subject to the Father of spirits, and live? 10For they disciplined us for a short time as seemed best to them, but He disciplines us for our good, so that we may share His holiness.

God saw the plight of His people, Israel, and . . .

2. God Heard Their Cry vs.  9b

God not only sees, He listens and shows His mighty acts!

B. God Showed His Might vs. 10

Exodus 9:14-16   14“For this time I will send all My plagues on you and your servants and your people, so that you may know that there is no one like Me in all the earth. 15“For if by
